Oh man I didn't realize that mascot was for a train. That's even slightly more random than a mascot for a city :D
My first trip to Japan it was all-inclusive, and after studying in Sendai we had like a two week excursion around the entire country, and we took Shinkansen everywhere. With the JR pass you pay the cost of one trip and you can take as many as you like. It's a nice luxury that's of course... not open to anyone living in Japan haha.
But there is a Shinkansen that goes from Sendai to Tokyo. The father of one of my host families there actually made that trip every day D:
